Project Journey

Week 1

In the first week, we were given time to create a group that consisted of 3-4 members of no more than two people with the same specialization. Following that, we are introduced to our client's project and the weekly plan that we would try to achieve in this module.

The project that we were assigned to is called "Caregiver First Aid". To start, we did some research on patient's with chronic illness, especially Alzheimer's including some draft questions that will be used for the interview.

Week 2

This week we met our client, Dr. Mugilarasi Arasarethinam, and got a more detailed brief of the project, the problem, the target, and our expected solution. To summarize, our group is tasked to create a fast acting solution or tool that helps to relieve issues faced by family caregiver's issues when dealing with their patient.

With a more focused explanation, we changed and refined our questions to focus on getting information and suggestions for the caregiver themselves.

Week 3

As we have refined our interview questions, we then conducted interviews with willing family caregivers about our topic. Each of us conducted one interview with family caregivers of different backgrounds and have received a signed consent from from each of them.

Transcripts for each interview were also made which would later on be used to analyze for findings in our research.

Week 4

We are informed that we also need to include a secondary target group aside from family caregivers. We then chose to focus on professional caregivers, which are caregivers who have had training and are hired for this line of work.

We then extracted important points from each interview transcript to create a list of sticky notes of each interviewee.

Week 5

In this week, we are created our Affinity Diagrams of our target groups. Taking all of the sticky notes and separated them into groups of clustered data. We did this for each of the target groups; family caregivers and professional caregivers.

At this stage, we are also given the time to craft a few problem statements and "How Might We" formulas based on the insights that we have gathered through our data and findings.

Week 6

Moving past our user research, we have started to move towards out ideation stage which involves us to think and craft ideas that could be used as a tool to help our target audience.

As a class exercise, we are utilizing one of the ideation techniques called Crazy 8's. In this method, we take a piece of paper and create eight sections from it (could also be 2 paper into fours for bigger space) and fill up those spaces with eight ideas in 8 minutes.

Week 7

We didn't have class this week as it was a public holiday, instead we decided to do an online meeting instead between our group members. Each of us gave our ideas based on our finalized problem statement.

During the discussion, we decided on a combination of a digital device with a website for accessibility. The device was designed in the form of a watch and I did several quick sketches to show my groupmates.

We specifically chose to implement colors that are based on our research of what would ease up stress and bring a happier mood.

Week 8

This week was our presentation where we give our first proposal & research of our ideas. We also finally came up with our caregiver support's name which is "Dear Caregiver".

Based on the feedback from the lecturer and the client, we had to give a more convincing proof on why our focus leans more into providing information and communication, at the same time we also have to provide a more solid background on how this idea can be implemented into the real world. From there, we created a Google Form for our target audience that listed questions required to solidify our ideas.

Week 10

As we received the answers from our Google feedback form questions made last week, we finally gathered all of the necessary information and put the answer summary in our FigJam board.

In class, we moved on to creating our scenarios and usability goals for "Dear Caregiver". Each of our members constructed a detailed view into the eyes of our User Persona, Uncle Chen. After finalizing our scenario, we listed down the tasks that users need to achieve for the testing on the watch and website including the performance measures on what is considered a fail or success based on the time and task completion.

Week 11

Before online consultation this week, we have created some wireframes and concept designs for the website and watch. Unfortunately we have yet to start on our prototype as we also have some important questions; whether we need to create a real working website and watch app or is a Figma prototype for both viable enough.

The feedback we got during this stage was to construct a user flow and site map for our website and watch first before continuing to develop our designs as there are still a lot of missing important information such as navigation, UI layout, and usability features. The user icons that we chose also looked a bit childish which needed a redesign.

Week 12

Based on the feedback from last week, me and Kai Xuan constructed the user flow and the site map that includes all of the needed features of the watch and website. This way, we have a guide to refer to when creating the prototype.

For this week's consultation, Dhina and I have created the watch's first prototype. The watch itself includes all of the necessary information that is shown in the sitemap. Kai Xuan and Li Wen created the website redesign concept alongside the website's avatar redesign.

The feedback we got from the consultation is to set a more suitable dimension for the watch, something more similar to existing smart watches, add button onboarding, interactive heart rate indicator, and also to reword the avatars again to be more mature.

Week 13

This week, our goal is to conduct the user testing as soon as possible so that we may make changes before our presentation. During class, we presented our working website and watch that Dhina and I have made.

From the feedback, the watch itself is already good and is ready to be used for the testing phase. Though for the website, there are some changes that need to be done first; mainly the landing page for visitors has to be different from the page that is accessed by logged in users and to make the overall pages more closer to the warmth feeling that we are trying to achieve.

After quickly refining it more, we sent the prototype for testing by Li Wen and Kai Xuan. The user testing included the usability goals and tasks from week 10 that has been refined to match our prototype. The consented participants also filled in a satisfaction form that will be used for feedback also when refining the website and watch.

Week 14

As this week is our final presentation, we took time to refine our watch and website based on our user testing. At the same time we also created our final slides which include every piece of information that was needed based on the requirements for our presentation. Before the actual day, we also rehearsed multiple times online to make sure our timing was under 15 minutes as that was the given amount.

After the presentation itself, it seems that the Dr. Mugil was satisfied with our solution of "Dear Caregiver". We also provided extra comments and showcased our prototypes live which helped answer some of the client's questions. Aside from that, we still had a few notes of feedback from Dr. Wong to refine our slides presentation, mainly to rework the wording of our solution and also to include all of the details of our user testing.
